2. Peel 6 apples and cut them into slices.
3. Don’t make the slices too thin or too thick.
4. Don’t use apples that are sweet or soft.
5. Mix the apples with 1 cup of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of spice.
6. You can use cinnamon or nutmeg as a spice.
7. Sift 2 cups of flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt into a large bowl.
8. Cut 2/3 cup of shortening into the flour with two knives.
9. Sprinkle 1/4 cup of ice-cold water over the dough, and mix it in with a fork.
10. Shape half of the dough into a ball, and flatten it.
11. Roll out the flattened ball into a circle, but don’t roll it out too thinly.
12. Lay the rolled-out crust into a pie pan carefully.
13. Put the apples into the pie pan, and dot them with 2 table spoons of butter.
14. Roll out the other half of the dough into a circle, and put it on top of the pie.
15. Bake the pie at 450˚ for 10 minutes, and then at 350˚ for 30 to 40 minutes longer.
16. Bake it until the top crust is brown, but don’t let it get too brown.
